CEPDeR Announces 2022 National Budget Roundtable and Panel Discussion

The annual National Budget Roundtable and Panel Discussion is just around. Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research, Covenant University has organized the National Budget Roundtable on an annual basis since 2019. The roundtable and panel discussion create a platform for industry, academia and government parastatals to analyse the current happening in the country in order to proffer actionable policies to solve the problems.

This year the National Budget Roundtable and Panel Discussion (2022 NBR) is themed ‘National Budgeting for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development in Nigeria’.

Concept Note

Nigeria has the potential to become a major player in the global economy by virtue of its human and natural resource endowments. However, this is not the case because this potential has remained relatively untapped or inadequately managed over the years. After a shift from agriculture to crude oil and gas in the late 1960s, Nigeria’s growth has continued to be driven by consumption and high oil prices.

The recent decline in oil prices and limited fiscal buffers to absorb the shock, as well as leakages of public resources due to misappropriation and weak infrastructural and institutional architecture have acted as clogs on the wheel development of the Nigerian economy.

Therefore, there is the need for the various agencies of the government to strategically tackle these challenges by changing the national economic trajectory to that of recovery and sustainable development.

Against the above background, the Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR) of Covenant University is poised to hold CEPDeR’s 2022 National Budget Roundtable and Panel Discussion themed ‘National Budgeting for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development in Nigeria’. This 2022 edition builds on the outstanding successes of the 1st (February 2019), 2nd (March 2020) and 3rd (February 2021) editions.
