Location: LSE Alumni Centre, Houghton Street, London, WC2A 2AE

 Date: Thursday 30th April 2026 5:30PM

The London School of Economics FLIA is pleased to host the London launch of The Palgrave Handbook on Carbon Trading in Africa, edited by Obindah Gershon, Ayodele Asekomeh, and Smith I. Azubuike.

This timely publication brings together leading scholarship on the economics, law, and governance of carbon pricing across the African continent, offering a critical and context-driven perspective on one of the most pressing issues in global climate policy.

The Handbook explores the opportunities and challenges shaping carbon trading systems in Africa. It examines key sectors including energy, manufacturing, and forestry, and outlines the policy, regulatory, and market frameworks required to support sustainable development and the continent’s green transition. The event will be chaired by and will feature opening reflections from David Luke, who authored the foreword, alongside contributions from the editors and chapter authors, including Grace Ayoola and Mahutin Anselme Houessigbédé.

The discussion will provide insights into Africa’s positioning within global carbon markets, the political economy of carbon pricing, and the role of governance and finance in enabling effective emissions trading systems. Bringing together academics, policymakers, and practitioners, this launch offers a platform for critical dialogue on how carbon trading can support inclusive and sustainable growth across Africa, while strengthening the continent’s integration into global climate frameworks.
