Visiting Scholars

Since the inception of CEPDeR, the centre has hosted numerous scholars across the globe including emerging scholars and prominent researcher in conjunction with the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Covenant University, Ota. 

Dr Belinda Archibong (Barnard College, Columbia University, USA)

The very First Visiting Scholar hosted at CEPDeR was Dr. Belinda Archibong, an Assistant Professor of Economics from Barnard College, Columbia University, USA who visited between 12thand 16thNovember 2018. In the cause of her stay, she made a seminar presentation about her research on Development Economics titled ‘Forced Labour and Colonial Fiscal Capacity: Prisons and Convict Labour in British Colonial West Africa.’ 

She equally had some interactions with the members of the faculty of the Department of Economics and Development Studies and the postgraduate students as well as CEPDeR’s Fellows.

Dr Uche E. Ekhator-Mobayode (University of Pittsburgh at Bradford & World Bank, USA)

Following the success of receiving the first visiting scholar, the next one was hosted in March 2019, Dr Uche E. Ekhator-Mobayode, from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and a fellow of World Bank, USA. She taught some undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the cause of her stay.  She also gave a seminar presentation on ‘The Boko Haram Insurgency and Intimate Partner Violence in Nigeria’

Professor Lynn Ilon (Bayoon Hub, South Korea)

Professor Ilon, a Global Knowledge Economist and Chief Innovation Coordinator of Bayoon Hub, South Korea was CEPDeR’s visiting scholar in March 2019. During her stay, she gave a presentation titled ‘The 2018 Nobel Prize in Knowledge Economics: How It Changes Our Views of Economic Growth and Development’. While she was a guest at CEPDeR, she taught both undergraduates and postgraduate courses on Development Economics, Knowledge Economics and Macroeconomics at the Department Economics and Development Studies of Covenant University.

Dr Benjamin Emmanuel (Technical University of Munich-TUM, Germany)

Dr Benjamin Emmanuel from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany first paid a courtesy visit to CEPDeR on June 10, 2019. Professors and Senior Lecturers from the Department of Economics and Development economics were present to receive Dr Emmanuel. He spoke about possible areas of research collaboration with CEPDeR and the Department in aspects of Agricultural Production and Resource Economics. Afterwards, he was hosted as Postdoctoral Fellow at CEPDeR between October 2019 and January 2020

Dr Michael Bruentrup (German Development Institute, Germany)

Dr Michael Bruentrup, a Senior Research Fellow at the German Development Institute, Bonn, Germany paid a courtesy visit to CEPDeR on June 19, 2019. In the cause of his three-day stay in Covenant University, he held a plenary session at the 2019 International Conference on Africa Development that was organised by Department of Economics and Development Studies in conjunction with CEPDeR. Dr Bruentrup, who has working relationship the Chair of CEPDeR (Prof Evans Osabuohien) since 2012 having served as his host supervisor for the Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship, had one-on-one interactions with the faculty members of the College of Business and Social Sciences as wells as CEPDeR’s Fellows.

Dr Haruna Issahaku (University of Development Studies, Ghana)

Dr Haruna Issahaku from the University of Development Studies, Ghana visited CEPDeR on October 5, 2019, and he spent two weeks with the centre. He is the Head of Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship Studies in the University of Development Studies, Ghana. While with the centre, Dr Issahaku presented a paper in the Seminar series title ‘Deploying Digital Finance for Agriculture and Inclusive Development in Africa’. He also taught some undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Covenant University in the cause of his stay

Prof Franklyn Lisk (University of Warwick, UK)

Franklyn Lisk, a Development Economist, Policy Adviser and Distinguished Professor at the Politics and International Studies Department, University of Warwick, UK with over 40 years of professional experience, visited CEPDeR between 24thand 26thOctober 2019. The purpose of his visit to discuss research collaboration with CEPDeR with respect to joint proposal development for the UK Research and Innovation ‘Digital Innovation and Development in Africa (DIDA).  During his visit he interacted with CEPDeR’s Fellows and faculty at the Department of Economics and Development Studies.  Furthermore, shared his wealth of experience with the participants at the workshop on ‘Career Progression after Graduation and Global Employability’ that held 26thOctober 2019 organised by CEPDeR conjunction with AGLOBE Development Centre
